Pearls

Pearls are actually organic gems formed via a biological proccess.Pearls are formed by saltwater oysters as a result of an irritant like sand that goes between the shell of the mollusk and the mantle and they are 92% calcium carbonate. Pearls are valued according to shape, color, size, surface condition and of course luster. Natural Pearls are formed by accident, cultured pearls have human intervention-very hard to tell them apart. The color of pearls can range from white to black. White and Creamy are the most popular and rose is another popular color. Pearls come in all kinds of shapes besides round and this makes them truly unique to work with. Some of the shapes include round, baroque, stick, potato, rice, coin, square, & button.

So much of my inspiration comes directly from the pearl itself! Pearls can be worn either to dress up or with a pair of jeans they are simply fun to wear anywhere.

Stringing pearls with french wire is a special technique that requires endless hours of learning. Knotting every pearl before the next pearl is placed is another technique used to protect all the pearls from falling all over the place in case of breakage. Pearls should be worn and not kept locked up. Pearls should be washed with a mild soap only and should be restrung every few years. The knots should always be snug-once the strand stretches they should be restrung for security.

“Princess” length is 17-19 inches.
